OpenRouter, the routing layer a large share of today's coding agents lean on to reach hundreds of AI models through one API, agreed Wednesday to be acquired by Stripe — no price disclosed, deal expected to close in the coming weeks. Ramp, another fintech, opened the model router it built for itself to everyone, free through 2026. The same day, Slack launched "Slack Code," channels where you tag in a coding agent and review its diffs in the thread, with Vercel's agent first through the door. Cursor gave its cloud agents the ability to watch a pull request or a scheduled task and act without a nudge. And JetBrains' latest developer survey shows why any of this matters: Claude Code adoption has more than doubled since January, while GitHub Copilot and Cursor itself both lost share. And Asana says Codex did a five-year test migration in two weeks, for about $12,000.

OpenRouter, the gateway many coding agents and IDE plugins call to reach 400+ AI models through one API, agreed Wednesday to be acquired by Stripe. OpenRouter says it now processes more than 10 trillion tokens a day for over 10 million developers, growing inference volume at least 10x a year since it launched in 2023, and that the deal changes nothing on its end: "same mission, same name, same product, same roadmap," including staying neutral rather than favoring any one model. The company, a 90-person startup, says the transaction still needs to clear "customary closing conditions" and is expected to close "in the coming weeks" — no price was disclosed. If you build on OpenRouter's API, the near-term impact is likely zero; the real question is whether that neutrality promise still holds a year into owning a payments giant.

Ramp opens its in-house model router to everyone, free through 2026

Ramp, the corporate-card company, launched Router.com Wednesday: one API across providers, built on the routing layer Ramp says has carried its own AI traffic for three years and cut its bill 40%. Its strategies use a provider's cheaper flex tier only while it's as fast as standard, shadow-test a candidate model on live traffic, and escalate only hard agent turns to a pricier model via NVIDIA's Switchyard. Routing is free through 2026. Same day, a payments company bought OpenRouter.

Slack launches Slack Code, with Vercel's agent first through the door

Slack turned channels into coding rooms Wednesday. Tag an agent, it opens a project channel, posts diffs and live previews, and archives itself when the work ships. Salesforce names Claude Code, Devin, Vercel Agent, and GitHub Copilot as founding partners. Vercel's side we read in full: its agent is in public beta for paid teams, tracing production errors to their deploy and shipping approved fixes without leaving the thread. Cursor's cloud agents start finishing their own pull requests

Cursor's cloud agents can now subscribe to events instead of waiting for a nudge, watching a pull request, a Slack thread, or a schedule and waking when something changes. Agents auto-subscribe to PRs they open and drive them to green, fixing CI and answering bot comments with no human re-prompt. A new /goal command keeps an agent working toward a long-lived objective, like "fix all flaky tests," until it's actually done. Subagents now run on isolated VMs, in parallel. Cloud-agents-only for now.

Claude Code adoption more than doubles, JetBrains survey finds

JetBrains surveyed 15,000+ developers between May and July for its 10th-annual Developer Ecosystem Survey. Claude Code adoption more than doubled since January, 18% to 39% worldwide and 47% in the US, now used roughly twice as often as GitHub Copilot, which slid to 21% from 29% a year ago. Cursor fell too, 18% to 12%. Codex grew fastest, 3% to 16%. Ninety percent of developers now use an AI coding agent weekly, 68% daily.

Asana says Codex cleared a five-year test migration in two weeks

Asana used OpenAI Codex to remove Enzyme, an unmaintained testing library that was blocking its frontend upgrades. From a five-sentence prompt, up to four agents worked in parallel on separate checkouts. One engineer checked in twice a day and reviewed every change. OpenAI's case study puts it at 1.5 engineer-weeks and about $12,000 in model and infrastructure spend, against Asana's own estimate of five years and roughly $6 million. Both baselines are Asana's estimates of a plan it never ran.
